2016-05-25 ..... Based on the past tense verb "was" I will say religion was more destructive. We've had centuries of religion with wars and sacrifices, and the window of science is much shorter. Plus not everything science might be blamed for (like the weaponry used to kill) was discovered through the scientific method. Gunpowder, metal working, etc, all existed before what we call science today.
If the debate was future tense then it's harder to answer. Science keeps creating grander and grander ways to die or infect or poison.
One irony with a debate question like this is it really comes down to whom wields technology. Blaming technology itself for a deadly situation is comparable to blaming guns for murders instead of blaming the murderers themselves, and the double irony with that is so many of the gun nuts are also religious nuts who like to use that latter argument to defend having their guns but then they'll turn around and blame science as being the true enemy of mankind.

2016-05-16 ..... It's bigger than a Bible discussion. The fact is all of human society borrowed from all the rest of human society through all of recorded history. Isolation sometimes had differences yet despite isolation there were still many cultural overlaps between peoples on opposite sides of the world who had not directly met. Trade, migration, competing ideas, languages, all created a world wide melange which we call the human race. It's no surprise that concepts in religion also repeat or parallel or get borrowed ... That's why it's so outrageous to me when people just thump their favorite verse from their Bible and say to hell with anyone or anything that doesn't agree with it. The truth is pretty much the whole world went into the development the human race up until that point in time when the verse was written, and the context of whether it is a warning or angry is a reflection of the fact indeed the writer and his beliefs was not recognized as the one and only truth in their day though they desperately wanted that to be the case ... Civilization is a massive mix of everything. Humans advance when they work together in peace and harmony and tolerance, assimilating new ideas and learning as we go. The times we fail are when we act like old pagans saying cut the heart out of that heretic.
