Artemis II is NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years,
scheduled for a 10-day flight around the Moon in April 2026.
As the second major flight of the Artemis program, this mission will test the Orion spacecraft's life support systems with four astronauts will prepare for future sustainable lunar exploration.
Usage Examples & Mission Goals . . .
Crewed Deep Space Test: Testing the Orion spacecraft and its European Service Module (ESM) with a crew to ensure safety for future missions.
Lunar Flyby: Taking four astronauts farther into space than any human has gone in half a century, conducting a loop around the Moon.
Manual Piloting Check: The crew will perform a proximity operations demo, manually flying the spacecraft to check systems.
Scientific Research: Conducting the AVATAR (A Virtual Astronaut Tissue Analog Response) study, using organ-on-a-chip devices to study the effects of radiation and microgravity.
Human Performance Test: Evaluating crew comfort and efficiency in deep space, including the first usage of a commode on a deep-space mission.
