I actually saw this happen . . . January 16 1965 .. I was 8 years old watching cartoons (Mighty Mouse) on a Saturday morning ..
At 2055 Wellington Place .. Our house faced the East with a vacant lot across the street ..
We were about one and a half miles straight West of the crash ..
I noticed over the top of our TV thru the front window something big fall from the sky to behind the house and tree line . . .
within 2 seconds there was this tremendous huge totally thick black mushroom cloud full of orange fire billowing toward the sky . . .
I FREAKED and as I ran toward the kitchen where my mom was making breakfast .. I heard : BOOM !!!! .. Mom says of course: “let’s roll” . . .
within 15 minutes .. Mom and I were literally walking thru the debris field of that crash ( she was quite the ambulance chaser ) . . .
